So… I went to the Nevis 🇰🇳 ➡️ St Kitts cross channel swim 🏊🏽‍♀️🏊‍♂️🏊 (No… I was NOT swimming 😂😂😂) I was firmly in the crowd… cheering EVERYONE on 🙌🏽 Around 500 swimmers from all over the world 🌍 🇬🇧 🇺🇸 🇷🇺 🇹🇼 🇧🇧 🇩🇪 (and more!) All ages. All levels. Just pure energy 💥 It kicked off in Nevis with a countdown from the Premier ⏱️ Then BOOM… everyone ran into the sea 🌊 Bright swim caps, goggles 🥽, ankle trackers, floats… • full support crew 🚤 20 canoes 🛶 | jet skis | coastguard | lifeguard | even a PARTY BOAT 🎉 🍻 🥂 😂 Normal speedboat 🚤 takes about 7 minutes to get across the channel … It’s about 2.5 miles (~4.3km) across! They put big orange markers at 500 metre points in the sea - to help the swimmers stay on track. Conditions were PERFECT 🙌🏽 No current. Calm waters. Beautiful day ☀️ 🏆 First swimmer: 56 minutes (from Bermuda!) 🔥 First female: ~1hr 5 mins… and she was only FIFTEEN 😳 (from Kentucky!!) Back for round two on the slopes ❄️⛷️ Let’s just keep it real… I fell over. I couldn’t get up. I nearly cried. Then I tried again. Got up. Fell over. Got up. And again. Next step - on the chair lift. I was flying down the mountain 😅 And I’m actually getting better 🙌🏽 😜 It reminded me of when I was learning to drive and my instructor said: “Right Lisa… put your foot down. Let’s go for it.” Motorway. Full speed. Doing 40mph was scary… I pushed it to 60… I thought I was about to launch 🚀 off !!! Today it was: “Knees bent. Poles back. Go.” And suddenly I’m flying down a snowy mountain like… OMG. ⛷️ 😂 And here’s the lesson: Growth feels scary. Progress feels shaky. Confidence comes after you do the thing - not before. You have to feel the fear… (the speed 😮‍💨) …and do it anyway. Whatever you keep practising, you will get better at.
